England's all-rounder Sam Curran has emerged as the most expensive player in the world's richest cricket league, the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He has been bought by the IPL team 'Punjab Kings' for 18.5 crore Rupees. He was up against Australia's all-rounder Cameron Green and England's Test captain Ben Stokes.
Cameron Green was the second most expensive player in the auction. He was hired by the leading IPL team Mumbai Indians for Rs 17.5 crore.
While England's Test captain Ben Stokes became the third most expensive player in the IPL auction, bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 16.25 crore.
It should be noted that earlier South Africa's Chris Morris was the most expensive player of all time and he is still the most expensive player in terms of dollars. Although Sam Curran has got the highest value in terms of Indian rupees, but if we talk about the calculation between dollars and rupees, he is still less than Chris Morris because compared to last year, the value of Indian rupees compared to dollars have decreased.
Earlier, Ben Stokes was sold for Rs 14.5 crore in 2017, which was a record price at that time. After that, in the year 2018, Rajasthan Royals hired him for Rs 12.5 crore.
England player Harry Brooks performed well in the series against Pakistan and perhaps that's why he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 13 crore.
Sam Curran had previously represented Punjab for the first time in the IPL. He tweeted on being bought by Punjab: 'Back to where it all started! Looking forward to it.
Curran was adjudged the best player of the tournament in the World Cup. He is considered to be the best last overs bowler in T20. He first came to the IPL in the year 2019 after which he was hired by Chennai Superkings.
Kings XI Punjab director Ness Wadia said of Sam Curran: “He is a world-class player. He is so good that he has the ability to be a part of any World XI and play in any situation. He is one of the best if not the best all-rounder. Because of them, the team will get a good balance.
While Green has expressed his gratitude for joining the Mumbai Indians and said, "I can't believe it's actually happened." It was a strange feeling that you were watching your own speech.
After Ben Stokes, West Indies player Nicholas Pooran received the most money. The Lucknow team has hired him for Rs 16 crore.
Most of India's key players are already part of one or the other team in the big auctions that have taken place before. In this auction, Manik Agarwal was bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs.8.25 crore, Ajinkya Rihan was bought by Chennai Super Kings for his base price of 50 lakhs. While Bangladesh player and well-known all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders, while West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder was bought by Rajasthan Royals. Both of them were bought for Rs.5.75 crore.
